About Us
I think oftentimes we take for granted the gifts we receive in life, my goal is to tap into those God given gifts and share them all with you! Lokken Land Management is a Forestry Service in Meeker County Minnesota that is owned and operated by Mak and Anna Lokken, both born and raised in central Minnesota. I met the Love of my life when I was in highschool, but I didn’t know it at the time. God made me move 6 hours away to Wisconsin for me to marry my wife, (a girl in my own hometown of Litchfield, Minnesota!) Anna has been a blessing to me in every way possible. We enjoy spending time together hunting, fishing and managing our new family farm. We have chickens, goats, and two black labs, Waylon and his son Willie. We enjoy attending Litchfield Christian Church where we can worship the Lord together! Growing up, I spent most of my time hunting, fishing, and running equipment around with my dad and grandpas. Inevitably they instilled in me the love of conservation, wildlife management, and hard work. These deep roots have shaped me into the person I am today. Pursuing my love of conservation led me to study Natural resources Technology at Central Lakes College In Brainerd Minnesota where I got an Associate of Applied Science degree. I decided to continue my education, this brought me to the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. At UWSP I got a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management and a minor in Biology. My education, experience, love for hard work and encouragement from my family gave me the tools necessary to start our Forestry Service in Meeker County Minnesota.
My favorite part of owning my own Land Management business is meeting all the amazing landowners and seeing their smiles when we transform their properties one acre at a time! Here is a little bit more about me. Although I wasn’t born in the woods, I got there as fast as I could. Both of my grandfathers were avid outdoorsmen, along with my dad. I spent many hot summer days in the woods with them seeing the sights, preparing for the upcoming hunting seasons, and becoming a better steward of the land. It wasn’t long before I was moving equipment around the yard, whether my dad was ready or not. The woods hold many precious memories from my childhood, from harvesting my first deer, felling trees with my dad, training my hunting dog, and watching my dog “try” to eat a live skunk. At the time, to my buddy Scott I was just some 16 year old who wouldn’t stop texting him about putting in food plots, planting trees, and the latest buck I had on camera. What became of our initial conversation has now blossomed into a strong lifelong friendship, still kindled over conversations of big deer, the newest food plot trends, and countless laughs in the woods. Together we cleared, worked, planted, sprayed, mowed, and hunted over our family land in Ottertail Minnesota. Year after year our wildlife population began to grow. As we continued to upgrade the land with wind breaks, new bedding ground, and a variety of food sources, more than just deer hunting took off- our trail cameras were filled with turkey, grouse, bear, and even the occasional bobcat. I was hooked! We wanted to offer Forestry Service in Meeker County Minnesota that helps and exceeds all expectations.
By this time, it was nearly the end of my senior year and I knew that this was something I wanted to pursue in my future, and I didn’t need to think about it twice. I began my journey at Central Lakes College, majoring in Natural Resources Technology. Though classroom work is not my forte, I was able to gain a lot of hands-on experience through my coursework. Doing bear den visits, trekking through the great bogs of Minnesota, and surrounding myself with other like minded conservationists greatly improved my knowledge of all things wildlife conservation. The added benefit of being just 60 minutes away from our hunting properties made me surprised I even passed college.
At Central Lakes, I was able to form several close friendships with classmates and join them on several unique hunting trips that left us all with memories that will last a lifetime. As my time neared an end, I was faced with a tough decision, to further my education or to jump into the workforce. I decided, along with a few friends, to reach for a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, majoring in Wildlife Management and minoring in Biology- just like Scott did, only 35 years later. Though the thought of moving 6 hours away just for more school seemed greuling, but I felt like it was the best decision if I wanted to make a career out of it some day. The statistical side of wildlife management was one I hadn’t yet spent much time on, but it was emphasized during my time at UWSP. Though it wasn’t always the most interesting, it helped me tie in all of the concepts I learned from Central Lakes into the main idea of wildlife conservation. There is give and take in every ecosystem, and to manage it well it’s quite the balancing act. This is where I got into Forestry Service in Meeker County Minnesota and wanted to help others.
While I was in Stevens Point, WI I crossed paths with a girl from my hometown, who I had gone to high school with. The more we talked the more I knew that she is truly the love of my life, I just had to move 5 hours away from home to realize it. Shortly after graduating from UWSP, we got married! Anna and I knew we wanted to stay close to the Litchfield MN area and quickly put our roots down in our hometown. Though I wasn’t raised on a farm, Anna was- and we quickly filled ours with goats, chickens, and bees. Each day is a new adventure with our bird dogs Willie and Waylon, and we wouldn’t trade it for the world. We love getting out in the woods to hunt deer and turkeys together, and we especially enjoy getting Waylon and Willie after upland birds and waterfowl.
This isn’t where either of us pictured ourselves in five years, but we are both incredibly glad we are here. In 2023 I decided to start our Forestry Service in Meeker County Minnesota, while working full time as the local Meeker County drainage ditch inspector. Though it was a lot to take on all at once, the business was met with resounding success and interest. From forestry mulching to food plot integration, CRP mowing and much more we began to get busier and busier. I was able to share with many individuals just how important it is to maintain wildlife habitat, and even advocate for programs within the DNR to assist landowners with the cost of managing invasive species. While raising awareness for invasive species, I was also able to share the importance of regular maintenance on woodland habitats, and how it impacts the wildlife populations in them. Eventually in winter of 2025, I was blessed to go full time with Forestry Service in Meeker County Minnesota and pursue my dreams in conservation. I’m overjoyed at the opportunity to share my passion with those across Minnesota, and beyond. Life has been busy ever since, but we wouldn’t have it any other way, and it hasn’t stopped us from continuing to serve God in our local church and of course hunting wild game. What started as a dream, has now become a reality and I am completely thrilled at the opportunity to work with other landowners to make their properties the very best for their families, and wildlife to enjoy.
