We work with landowners that are just starting a new build, and landowners that have lived at their residence for 30 years. Our main Forestry Service in Meeker County Minnesota option will ensure you get the best. This service is best done in the spring summer and fall, giving ample time to determine if any settling of the material will occur.

  • My lawn is covered in weeds, how do I remove them?

We offer spraying programs for weeds of all kinds, even if it takes multiple applications year to year. A site visit will be conducted before spraying occurs, this allows us to understand what type of weeds we are dealing with and the exact root cause of the problem, (pun intended).

  • How do I increase my pheasant population?

We offer consulting services for habitat creation, management, and implementation. This is something we thoroughly enjoy doing, as it gives us an opportunity to work with each landowner to create prime habitat for the wildlife we all enjoy. • What is common buckthorn?

Buckthorn Is a highly invasive shrub species that originated in Europe. Farmers in Europe used this shrub as hedge rows to keep cattle on their land. It worked so effectively that farmers brought it overseas when they immigrated to the United States. Buckthorn out competes all native vegetation for sunlight and nutrients making it highly aggressive in spreading over native landscapes.

  • How do I get rid of common Buckthorn?

Buckthorn is hard to eradicate, but it is possible when done correctly! Mature buckthorn first needs to be mechanically removed either by mowing/grinding, uprooting or flush cutting. Following the mechanical removal it needs to be properly sprayed with a chemical containing triclopyr. Spraying is often done in September when buckthorn is pulling in as much last minute water and nutrients as it can before it goes dormant for the winter. For Forestry Service in Meeker County Minnesota options and more, we have what you need. For common buckthorn, just contact our team!

  • Will common buckthorn kill my woods?

Yes, buckthorn will vigorously establish itself and overtake a woodland in only a few years if left untreated. Buckthorn creates a very thick canopy which blocks the sunlight from hitting the forest floor inturn choking out native vegetation. If left untreated it will kill your woodlands.

  • Is common buckthorn expensive to remove?

Buckthorn is affordable to fight if done properly. We eradicate buckthorn on a set hourly rate, cost per acre basis, as well as a lump sum depending on each landowners desire. Buckthorn can be expensive to battle if it is left untreated for many years as it grows large and spreads rapidly.

  • Is chemical Necessary to kill common buckthorn?

Yes, chemicals are necessary to use to fully eradicate buckthorn in almost every scenario. Buckthorn is a coppice species which means it will grow new plants off its own rootbase if cut and not chemically treated. We offer foliar, bark, and basal chemical applications on buckthorn.

  • My oaks are dying, what can I do?

Oak wilt is becoming very common in Central Minnesota. Oak wilt is caused by the fungus Bretziella fagacearum. It spreads via beetles that feed on oak tree sap as well as underground through connected root systems. Tree injections oftentimes can save a tree that is in the beginning stages of Oak wilt.

  • My pasture is full of thistles, what can I do?

Mowing and chemical applications are effective in combating invasive thistles. We offer both methods of removal. It is best to mow and spray thistyles before they produce their new seeds in midsummer. By spraying or mowing thistles before they seed out, this slows down the spread of new plants very effectively.

  • Is fire a good management tool?

Yes, prescribed fire is a highly effective management tool. Fire is historically necessary in regenerating native landscapes and fire dependent forests. Fire combats invasive species and consumes unwanted tree saplings in grasslands. Fire also was used by Native Americans in managing the health of their hunting grounds!

  • How do I identify an Invasive species?

Invasive species are species that outcompete native vegetation. They are often found in landscapes that have very little biodiversity. They often spread quickly and are hard to control. Key features to look for in identifying invasive species are large seed production, rapid spreading, growth on or through other species – example (vines), and toxicity. Please reach out to us concerning any questions you may have about any vegetation you have on your land.

  • Is wild parsnip dangerous?

Yes, wild parsnip is very dangerous and even deadly if eaten. Some people mistake wild parsnips for wild carrots, eating them is often fatal. Wild parsnips often have deep yellow flowers and green leaves in alternate compound patterns. They can be found in ditches, cricklines, pastures, native prairies and most anywhere. People who pick wild parsnips get terrible rashes and even large boils on their skin. The oil from the plant is toxic. We combat wild parsnip by mowing and spraying.
